April 30th, hiphop music playing and excitement in the air. The Isla Rose Dance Academy had the privilage of hosting its very first Workshop! Jaeme Velez, orginally from Malaga but is know working professionally in Los Angeles and Joe Dansuers from France came to teach and inspire our students.
Many dancers came from all around the Costa Del Sur to share there love of dance and learn from the best! We had a workshop Raffle giving a FREE WORKSHOP to the winner! Each Raffle contender was asked to sign up and like our Facebook. Our winner was anounced the day before the workshop. Congratulations to Patricia Marin Garcia who won the FREE WORKSHOP!
We were honored to have Joe Dansuers from the Les Danseur Fantastique crew, France Got Talent and the new highly anticipated movie “High Strung.” Joe focused on the fundamentals of street dance, Locking, Popping and freestyle. Joe started the class off with a Street dance routine which challenged our eclectic group of dancers to think with the other parts of their brains. Instead of using fast counts Joe taught through movement and memory, a way many “Street” dancers teach and studio dancers could really learn from. After learning the routine the class was introduced to the entirely different style of Locking.
Not only relying on ourselves to remember the routine but the students had to find partners and get nsync with their movements. This was challengeing for some yet fun for all! The end of the class Joe put all the students in a big freestyle circle using the same song “Leave Me Alone” by Kaytranada. In putting the song on repeat the entire class was able to get a true feel for the song and each student was able to showcase their best moves while knowing the rhythms and beats of the song. You can check out the class video on youtube here:
The second part of the three hour workshop was kicked off by Jaeme Velez. Jaeme has danced in the movie “Chocolate City” and with Jennifer Lopez. We didn’t just recieve a dance class but a look into the world of performance and entertainment. Jaeme taught us a peice to “Pose” by Rihanna focusing on moves that are appealing to an audience. He emphasized the need to not only dance but act out each intentional movement. The clases was concluded by having each group perform in front of there peers. We were then graced with a finally of Jaeme and our very own teacher Inu performing a duette to the routine, you can see the class video here:
What a great workshop! Thank you to all that came and shared your energy and love of dance. Thank you Joe and Jaeme for sharing your talent, knowledge and pushing us to be the best dancers we can be!
